Meribel
Meribel is located in the heart of the
world-famous 3 Valley ski area. Formed by six
resorts (Courchevel, La Tania, Brides-les-Bains, Meribel, Les Menuires and
Val Thorens), the 3 Valleys is the largest and one of the most beautiful ski
areas in the world. It has over 600 km of snow-packed runs for skiers and
boarders of all abilities, with massive, sweeping slopes and tree-lined
runs. The resort has two terrain parks: the 1200m Moon Park and the Snowpark
des Plattières at Mottaret. The neighbouring resorts of Courchevel, la
Tania, Val Thorens and Les Menuires can all be reached quickly, using the
lift system, making Meribel the ideal base from which to the explore the vast Trois Vallées ski area.
Meribel offers
little queuing, rapid slope access and picturesque, traditional chalet-style
accommodation, making it one of the most attractive ski resorts in France.
The lift system is modern and efficient, benefiting from continual
improvements. Queues are rare thanks to the state-of-the-art, hands-free
system carrying up to 260,000 skiers per hour.
Montgenèvre
Montgenèvre / Monts de la Lune is known as the snowiest part of
the Franco-Italian Milky Way (Via Lattea/ Voie Lactee) region, with its great
snow record and mainly north-facing slopes. The Milky Way boasts over 400 kms of
piste (145 ski runs) of which 120 kms have artificial snowmaking facilities
(well over 1000 snow cannons). A large proportion of Montgenèvre has snow
canons, giving it guaranteed snow all season. With 93 ski lifts, skiers of all
standards have a vast choice of varied and picturesque routes, ideal for both
boarders and skiers. With the ability to shift over 100,000 skiers per hour,
queues are a rarity, especially mid-week when you can have entire pistes to
yourselves.
For car drivers, it is an ideal location from which to
explore the rest of the Milky Way and some excellent French ski resorts within
15-30 minutes drive e.g. Serre Chevalier, Puy-St-Vincent and Briancon.
Montgenèvre was the first official ski resort in France,
hosting the first international ski competition in 1907 and was a very popular
destination with the Paris Jet Set in the 1930’s. Today, it is known as one of
the jewels of the Milky Way, one of the largest ski areas in Europe and host to
the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
Sauze d'Oulx
Sauze d'Oulx is an ideal departure
point for the Milky Way, part of one of the
world's largest ski areas. There are over 400 kms of piste of which
120 kms have artificial snowmaking facilities (well over
1000 snow cannons). With 91 ski lifts,
skiers of all standards have the choice of fast, wide pistes or gentler
picturesque routes through the fir and larch woods.
Popular with English tourists for many years,
Sauze d'Oulx has excellent English-speaking ski
and snowboard schools and ski/board hire shops. Lift pass prices are lower than in many comparable resorts with discounts for
under 12's and for senior citizens. Under 8's ski for free.
There
are also nursery/crèche facilities for the very young.
The original village has retained its old
world charm whilst the newer part has all you need for an enjoyable fun-filled
holiday. Après ski can be as lively as you please with pubs, cocktail bars
and discos. In the many restaurants and pizzerias in the resort you can eat very
well at
reasonable prices.
