Flexible Breaks specialise in ski and snowboard weekends and flexible breaks to Montgenèvre in France, just next to the Italian border town of Claviere, only 1 hour 30 minutes from Turin international airport and half an hour further from Chambery.

Stays of any length are also available (you must pay for a minimum of three nights).  "arrive any day; leave any day; stay as long as you like" sums up what Flexible Breaks is about.

If you are busy at the weekends you can ski on empty pistes during the week. You can also stretch your stay over two weekends maximising your time on the slopes with the minimum time off work. A favourite is to arrive Friday night and stay until the second Monday evening giving you 10 full days on the piste with only 6 days off work.

We offer free transfers daily to Montgenèvre from Turin and Chambery airports meeting flights arriving from 11 UK airports (Birmingham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Gatwick, Leeds-Bradford, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich  Southampton and Stansted) plus Dublin and Brussels. See our transfers page for details of the airlines, routes and transfer times.

Although many websites will tell you that it is possible to get from Turin to Montgenèvre using public transport in just over two hours, they are referring to the actual journey time and do not take into account any waiting time. In reality there is a bus from the airport to the station in Turin; there is a train from Turin to Oulx (some are direct, some involve changes); then another bus from Oulx to Montgenèvre.  You would need the bus to leave the airport at the exact time you are ready, no queue to buy your rail ticket, the train to pull out of Turin the moment you board it and of course the second bus waiting at Oulx station ready to leave as soon as you are. DO YOU FEEL THAT LUCKY?

There is also a train, which takes only 4½ hours from Paris to Oulx, the village just below Montgenèvre.  For those who prefer self-drive ski breaks, Montgenèvre is between 8 and 10 hours from Calais and is Motorway all the way.

Montgenèvre/Monts de la Lune is known as the snowiest part of the Franco-Italian Milky Way (Via Lattea/Voie Lactee) region, with its great snow record and largely north-facing slopes. The Milky Way boasts over 400 kms of piste (145 ski runs) of which 120 kms have artificial snowmaking facilities (well over 1000 snow cannons).  A large proportion of Montgenèvre is covered by snow canons, giving it guaranteed snow all season. With 93 ski lifts, skiers of all standards have a vast choice of varied and picturesque routes, ideal for both boarders and skiers. With the ability to shift over 100,000 skiers per hour, queues are a rarity, especially mid-week when you can have entire pistes to yourselves. There is also a brand new snow park for boarders with quarterpipe, projump, gap and rope tow.

For car drivers, it is an ideal location from which to explore the rest of the Milky Way and some excellent French ski resorts within 15/30 minutes drive e.g. Serre Chevalier, Puy-St-Vincent and Briancon.

Montgenèvre was the first official ski resort in France, hosting the first international ski competition in 1907 and a very popular destination with the Paris Jet Set in the 1930’s. Today, it is know as one of the jewels of the Milky Way, one of the largest ski areas in Europe and host to the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Popular with British tourists for many years, Montgenèvre has excellent English-speaking ski and snowboard schools as well as a variety of high-standard ski/board hire shops. Lift pass prices are lower than in many comparable resorts. Children 6 years and under get a free lift pass, and reductions are offered for children from 7 to 11 years, or adults over 60.  The standard ski pass covers Montgenèvre and Monts de la Lune, a 6-day or longer pass allows you to ski in Sestriere, Sansicario, Sauze d'Oulx, Alpe d’Huez, Puy-St-Vincent and Serre Chevalier for one day.  Daily extensions are available for the rest of the Via Lattea for those with ski passes of less than six days.  Montgenèvre is geared up for children, providing excellent nursery/crèche facilities for the very young, with a day nursery on the slopes for children from 3-5, where there is a rest room, a rolling ski carpet, a chairlift and lots of fun and games. The ski school provides lessons for children over 5.

Apres Ski

Other facilities include a cinema, a natural ice rink and toboggan run, as well as heli skiing (landing in Italy). Montgenèvre is also popular with Nordic skiers (cross-country skiing) with two fantastic circuits: one leaving from the resort, a trail of 25 kms, leading into Claviere through the undulating curves of the Montgenèvre golf course.  The other leaves from Les Alberts and provides 75kms of cross-country through the beauty spot of Val Claree. Snowshoe hiking is also a popular sport here. So there is plenty to do for the non-down-hill skiers in the party.

At night Montgenèvre offers a warm welcome with a selection of bars and restaurants where you can taste traditional French cuisine, Italian pasta or pizza, drink a glass of vin chaud (hot wine) and a night club where you can  boogie the night way to the latest music.  Or if you have not had enough skiing you can take part in a torchlight descent.
