As in previous years there is no free transfer service
from Turin on Sunday although you may still arrange one and pay the
supplement.

within easy reach of Meribel, Sauze d'Oulx and Montgenevre. With flights

Newcastle, Norwich and Southampton), it makes good sense for many
people to arrive at Chambery.

Chambery to Meribel: between 1 hour and 1 hour and
30 mins from airport to resort
and vice-versa.
Chambery to Sauze d'Oulx: between 1 hour and

Grenoble airport is
a little bit further than Chambery, but still within easy reach of Meribel
(about 1 hour 45 mins) With flights
arriving daily from Gatwick and Stansted it has enabled us to cater for
short breaks in Meribel. There are also Flights into Grenoble from
(Birmingham, Bristol, Bournemouth and Edinburgh), We offer free

Alternative transport
to resort
Public transport from Turin to
Sauze d'Oulx and Montgenevre
Although many websites will tell you that it is possible
to get from Turin to Sauze d'Oulx or Montgenevre using public transport in just over two
hours they are referring to the actual journey time and do not take into
account any waiting time.
In reality there is a bus from the airport to the station
in Turin; then there is a train from Turin to Oulx (some are direct, some involve
changes); then another bus from Oulx to Sauze or Montgenevre. You will need to buy three
tickets in three different ticket offices, each may involve a queue. You will
also need to be able to explain where you want to go.
Then you would need the bus
to leave the airport at the exact time that you are ready and to arrive
at Turin station at the right time for the train to depart the moment you
board it. Then of course the bus waiting at Oulx station needs to be
ready to leave as soon as the train arrives. DO YOU FEEL THAT LUCKY?
We would always advise that you wait for the free
transfer.
Renting a car
When assessing the viability of a hire car
as an alternative, it is important to take into account fuel costs, motorway
tolls and the cost of snow chains, which are required by law.
Do you know how to put the chains on?
Do you really want to have this problem when it is dumping down with snow? If you do,
make sure you have an old jacket and a pair of gardening gloves as with all
the slush and salt about it is a cold and filthy job. Make sure
the car you hire is big enough to get all your luggage in. Is there
parking at your accommodation? Who is going to dig the car out on your
day of departure if there has been a big snow fall? What if it doesn't
start? And lastly how much is it going to cost you if you get a knock
on the bodywork? Remember this is winter in the mountains, there is
often snow and ice on the roads.
If you do decide that a hire car is a viable option,
please make sure that you know the way to the resort and if you do not speak the
language of the country you are in, at least carry a phrase book.
This may be an option, but only if you intend to use the car during your
stay.
Independent airport transfer company
If you book a transfer with a taxi company or independent
airport transfer specialist you should agree a fixed price. You should make
sure that you are clear where in the airport you should meet your driver and
how you will recognise each other. Also make sure that it is a direct
airport transfer and that you are not calling at other resorts on the way.
Check that they know where your accommodation is and that they have the
necessary permit to get their vehicle to the accommodation and are not
intending to leave you to hump your bags half a mile up a hill.
It's hard to understand why you would chose this option unless Flexible
Breaks do not have capacity to pick you up.
Notes:
For health and safety reasons, Flexible Breaks staff have
express instructions not to handle heavy baggage (over 20kg per individual
item). If an item of your baggage exceeds or appears to exceed this
weight you will be asked to load it on and off the transfer vehicle
yourself.
If you do arrive in resort
under your own steam, you will need to give us an arrival
time and confirm that we have a member of the Flexible Breaks staff available to
let you into your accommodation on your arrival. Remember to bring our
local phone number with you in case your transfer does not turn up or if you
are going to be late. Between 12 noon and 4 pm and after 10.30 pm we charge
€40 to meet self arrivals.
Important
notice: Flexible Breaks SA offer airport transfers (free or
otherwise) on the express understanding that they cannot be held liable if a
transfer is delayed or cancelled due to reasons beyond the company's
control.
